Detroit Lakes (trfnews.i234.me) – A Detroit Lakes man has been charged with two felony counts related to domestic assault and threats of violence. Samuel Joseph Renteria, 38, was arrested following a disturbance at his apartment on November 27, 2025.
Incident Overview
At approximately 3:30 a.m., law enforcement officers responded to a call about a disturbance. Dispatch reports indicated that Renteria was intoxicated and behaving erratically, leading officers to express concern for the safety of children in the apartment.
When officers arrived, Renteria allegedly threatened to release his German Shepherd dog on them and became hostile toward the officers. He specifically made threats to one officer and their family.

Arrest and Charges
Renteria was arrested on charges of domestic assault and felony threats of violence. He was transported to the Becker County Jail. On December 1, 2025, Renteria was granted bail. He posted $750 in cash bail and was released under strict conditions.
Bail Conditions and Court Appearance
The court set bail conditions, including a domestic abuse no-contact order, restrictions on alcohol and nonprescribed drugs, and a ban on possessing weapons. Additionally, Renteria is prohibited from coming within 500 feet of the apartment building.
His next court appearance is scheduled for January 26, 2026, before District Judge Gretchen D. Thilmony.
