Detroit Lakes Man Charged After Meth Seizure

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — A Detroit Lakes man faces a felony drug charge following a May arrest in Becker County.

Kyle James Bachmeier, 39, is charged with fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.

The charge was filed in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District Court. The case carries court file number 03-CR-26-1177.

A criminal complaint contains allegations. Bachmeier is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Arrest Followed Active Warrant

According to the complaint, a Becker County deputy saw Bachmeier riding a bicycle on May 21.

The deputy knew Bachmeier had an active arrest warrant, the complaint states.

Authorities say Bachmeier reached into a pocket while the deputy approached him. He then allegedly threw an object onto the ground.

The deputy found a small plastic bag near that location. The bag contained a crystal-like substance, according to the complaint.

Bachmeier was arrested and informed of his rights. He was later taken to a hospital for treatment of an injury.

The suspected substance was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension laboratory.

Testing was completed on June 9, according to the complaint.

The laboratory identified the substance as about 0.99 grams of methamphetamine, the filing states.

Methamphetamine is listed as a Schedule II controlled substance under Minnesota law.

The complaint lists several earlier felony drug convictions involving Bachmeier.

Those cases were filed in Becker and Clay counties, according to court records cited in the complaint.

Prosecutors also said Bachmeier had another felony drug case pending in Becker County.

The new offense allegedly occurred while he was on release in that case.

The state has requested a warrant for Bachmeier’s arrest.

A fifth-degree controlled substance conviction can bring up to five years in prison. It can also carry a fine of up to $10,000.
