Becker County, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — On March 22, 2025, White Earth police responded to a residence in Callaway, Minnesota, following an interrupted 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a woman who reported that her significant other, 35-year-old Michael James Brodsho of Detroit Lakes, had assaulted her. The woman stated that during an argument, Brodsho wrapped his hand around her neck and squeezed until she had difficulty breathing. The 911 call was interrupted during the altercation, reportedly due to a struggle over the phone before the woman’s child grabbed it.
After the alleged assault, Brodsho left the scene with another child in a Ford truck. Law enforcement was informed that Brodsho had been drinking. A Becker County sheriff’s deputy located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 59. Upon approaching the truck, the deputy identified Brodsho and observed a child inside. The deputy detected a strong odor of alcohol and asked Brodsho if he had been drinking; Brodsho admitted to consuming six to seven drinks.
Field sobriety tests were administered, which Brodsho performed poorly. A preliminary breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.26%, over three times the legal limit. A subsequent test at the Becker County Jail showed a BAC of 0.23%.
Brodsho has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony domestic assault by strangulation, gross misdemeanor interfering with a 911 call, gross misdemeanor DWI, and misdemeanor domestic assault. He made his first court appearance on March 24 before District Court Judge Gretchen Thilmony and posted $30,000 cash bail without conditions. His next court appearance, an omnibus hearing, is scheduled for May 12 before District Court Judge Michelle W. Lawson.
