Cass Lake: Man Charged in Stolen Truck DWI Case

CASS LAKE (trfnews.i234.me) A Bemidji man faces three charges after deputies found a reported stolen truck near Cass Lake.

Fredrick White is charged with felony DWI test refusal and felony motor vehicle theft. He also faces a gross misdemeanor for driving after cancellation.

The charges were filed in Cass County District Court. They stem from an incident reported on June 10, 2026.

Stolen Truck Found Near Cass Lake

According to the complaint, dispatchers alerted deputies about a stolen gray Ford F-150. The truck had been reported stolen in Beltrami County.

Authorities tracked the truck to the Cass Lake area. Deputies later found it parked near a home.

The driver’s door was open when deputies arrived. A witness told deputies that White was inside the residence.

White was then arrested, according to the complaint. Deputies reported smelling alcohol and said his speech was slurred.

The complaint also states that White had poor balance. A witness allegedly said White admitted taking the truck.

Breath Test Refusal Alleged

White reportedly claimed he had been hitchhiking. He refused a preliminary breath test, the complaint states.

Authorities then took White to the Cass County Law Enforcement Center. He received the state breath test advisory.

White asked for time to contact an attorney. He later declined the breath test, according to court records.

The complaint alleges White tried to head-butt a correctional officer. No separate charge for that claim appears in the listed counts.

Court records state that White’s driving privileges were canceled as inimical to public safety. That status bars a person from legally driving.

Prosecutors also cited a 2010 felony conviction for DWI test refusal in Polk County. That prior case may affect the current charge level.

Possible Penalties

The felony test refusal charge carries a maximum seven-year sentence. It also carries a possible $14,000 fine.

The vehicle theft charge carries up to five years in prison. It also carries a possible $10,000 fine.

The driving-after-cancellation charge carries up to 364 days in jail. A conviction may also bring a $3,000 fine.

The complaint contains allegations, not proof of guilt. White is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
