Cass Lake Man Charged In Casino Hotel Assault

CASS LAKE (trfnews.i234.me) — A Cass Lake man is facing a felony charge after an alleged hallway assault at a casino hotel left a victim with serious injuries.

Izaiah Jaymes Graves has been charged in Cass County District Court with third-degree assault causing substantial bodily harm. The charge is listed under Minnesota Statute 609.223.

The case was filed in Minnesota’s 9th Judicial District. Court records list the file number as 11-CR-26-675. Public case information can be searched through Minnesota Court Records Online.

Alleged Assault At Hotel

According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement responded at about 7:51 a.m. on March 27, 2026. The call came from Cedar Lakes Casino Hotel in Cass Lake.

Casino staff reported that a male victim had been assaulted by multiple people. The complaint says those people had left before officers arrived.

The victim, identified in court records by initials, was being treated by emergency medical workers. The complaint says he had trouble breathing after the assault.

Witnesses Reported Hallway Attack

A witness told law enforcement she heard a disturbance in the hallway. She opened her room door and saw a male on the ground.

The witness said the male was being kicked and punched. She yelled, and the people involved left down the hallway, the complaint says.

The victim later told investigators he was staying at the hotel. He said he went to the second floor to visit a friend.

While knocking on a door, the victim said a nearby door opened. He identified the man who came out as Izaiah Jaymes Graves.

The complaint says Graves allegedly began punching the victim. The victim fell to the floor, where he was kicked and punched.

Injuries Listed In Complaint

Medical records cited in the complaint say the victim suffered a broken cheekbone. The complaint also says he needed a chest tube.

Investigators reported visible swelling and bruising to the victim’s face and ribs.

Law enforcement also reviewed the hallway video. The complaint says the video showed the victim approaching a hotel room and knocking.

A nearby door then opened, and a male ran out. The complaint says the male struck the victim in the face.

The video allegedly showed the victim falling to the ground. The complaint says he was then kicked and punched several times.

Defendant Spoke With Investigators

According to the complaint, Graves later met with investigators on April 7. He was told he was not in custody.

The complaint says Graves confirmed he was at the hotel. He also said he was involved in a hallway altercation.

Graves allegedly said he made first contact after the victim said something to him. He also allegedly admitted kicking and stomping the victim.

The complaint says Graves told investigators he “took it too far.”

A felony third-degree assault charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. It can also carry a $10,000 fine, or both.

A criminal complaint is not a conviction. Graves is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
