Bemidji Woman Faces Drug-Impaired DWI Charge
BEMIDJI, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Vanessa Jean Adams faces a gross misdemeanor DWI charge in Beltrami County District Court.
The charge follows a reported incident on May 29, 2026. Prosecutors allege Adams drove while under a controlled substance’s influence.
The complaint cites Minnesota Statute 169A.20 and Minnesota Statute 169A.25. The maximum penalty is 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine.
Report Started at Bemidji Store
Police received a call around 8:13 p.m. from the Walmart parking lot. A witness reported that a woman appeared severely impaired inside a parked vehicle.
The witness recorded a video before the vehicle left the lot. The complaint says Adams was later identified as the driver.
An officer reviewed the video and searched for the vehicle. Police found it parked near a business on Paul Bunyan Drive.
The vehicle appeared to be running when police began the stop. Officers reported glassy eyes, fast speech, and constant movements.
According to the complaint, Adams admitted using marijuana earlier that day. She later reported smoking methamphetamine the previous day.
Police also learned her Minnesota driving privileges were canceled. The complaint says she did not complete field sobriety tests successfully.

Vehicle Search and Blood Sample
Police searched the vehicle during the investigation. They reported finding burned foil and a packet containing white powder.
A field test did not identify the powder as cocaine, fentanyl, or certain opiates. The complaint describes those test results as inconclusive.
A passenger told police Adams seemed normal when she was picked up. The passenger noticed impairment after they returned to the Walmart vehicle.
Police arrested Adams and took her to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. The complaint says Adams later mentioned smoking a substance resembling fentanyl.
An officer obtained a search warrant for a blood or urine sample. Adams agreed to provide blood for laboratory testing.
The sample was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The complaint does not include the final laboratory result.
Court Case Remains Pending
Prosecutors allege two or more aggravating factors were present. The complaint also references several earlier DWI court cases involving Adams.
The new case is filed as 04-CR-26-1247. Public information may be available through Minnesota Court Records Online.
A criminal complaint contains allegations, not proof of guilt. Adams is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
