Bemidji Woman Charged In Knife Assault Case

BEMIDJI, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Angel Rose Susunkewa, 23, of Bemidji, is facing three charges in Beltrami County District Court.

The charges stem from an April 20, 2026, assault report in Bemidji.

According to a criminal complaint, Susunkewa is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Prosecutors allege the weapon was a knife.

She is also charged with fourth-degree assault of a peace officer. A third count alleges obstruction of legal process.

Felony Charge Filed In Beltrami County

The felony assault charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. It also carries a possible $20,000 fine.

The officer assault charge is a gross misdemeanor. It carries a maximum sentence of 364 days in jail.

The obstruction charge is a misdemeanor. It carries a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail.

Stabbing Report On 1st Street East

The complaint says dispatch received a report around 2:32 a.m.

The report involved a possible assault at 1116 1st Street East, Apartment C.

A caller inside the home reported active fighting. The caller also reported a male trying to climb out a window.

Law enforcement responded and found Susunkewa and a male in the roadway west of the home.

Both were detained as officers checked the scene.

While Susunkewa was being detained, she allegedly screamed and kicked at an officer.

The complaint says she then swung her fist and hit an officer’s arm.

Victim Found Inside Apartment

While officers were detaining people outside, a resident reported a stabbing victim inside.

Officers entered the apartment and found a victim seated at a table.

The victim was holding a shirt against an apparent stab wound to the abdomen.

A resident said the stabbing may have involved a switchblade or kitchen knife.

The complaint says Susunkewa later made an unprompted statement while being secured at the jail.

She allegedly said she pulled the knife on the girl. She also allegedly said the incident was her fault.

Susunkewa has been charged by complaint. A charge is only an accusation.

She is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
