Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Grand Forks man is facing charges in Beltrami County District Court after an alleged theft at Walmart in Bemidji.

According to a criminal complaint, Lashaun Tarez Moran, 44, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, is charged with felony possession of burglary or theft tools. He is also charged with misdemeanor theft.

The complaint was filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District under court file number 04-CR-25-2979.

Charges Filed In Beltrami County

Prosecutors allege the incident happened on or about September 14, 2024, at the Walmart store in Bemidji.

Moran is accused of possessing an item or tool with the intent to use it for burglary or theft. That charge falls under Minnesota Statute 609.59.

The felony charge carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison. It may also carry a $5,000 fine, or both.

Moran is also charged with misdemeanor theft. Prosecutors allege the property was valued at less than $500.

That charge falls under Minnesota Statute 609.52.

Complaint Details: Walmart Allegation

The probable cause statement says Walmart asset protection staff observed Moran and another person enter the Bemidji store.

While inside, Moran allegedly selected a video projector. The complaint says he then cut spider wire from the projector.

Spider wire is commonly used as a retail security device. It is often wrapped around boxed electronics.

The complaint says Moran placed the projector on a shelf after cutting the wire.

He then allegedly left the store with the video projector without paying for it.

The complaint says the investigation was handled through the Bemidji Police Department.

No conviction has been entered in the case. The charges are allegations. Moran is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Court records show the case is being handled in Beltrami County District Court.
