Bemidji Man Charged in Kestrel Pines Shooting

Bemidji (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man faces a felony assault charge following a July shooting.

Vincent Michael Parkhurst Jr., 27, is charged with second-degree assault using a dangerous weapon.

The charge stems from a July 19, 2026, shooting near Kestrel Pines in Bemidji.

Parkhurst Found With Gunshot Wound

Police responded around 10:39 p.m. after a wounded man entered a nearby hotel.

Officers identified the wounded man as Parkhurst, according to the criminal complaint.

Police reported an entrance and exit wound near his left shoulder.

Parkhurst initially said he heard three gunshots while walking near Kestrel Pines.

He told police he did not see who fired the shots.

Parkhurst was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

Investigators later connected Terrance Lee Jones Jr. to the shooting.

Jones told police he fired one or two shots at a man wearing black clothing.

Revolver Recovered From Hotel Roof

Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the hotel and Kestrel Pines.

The complaint says hotel video showed Parkhurst running beside the building.

He allegedly threw an object onto the hotel roof before entering the building.

Police later recovered a .22-caliber revolver from the roof.

The revolver contained four spent rounds and five unfired rounds, according to prosecutors.

Surveillance from Kestrel Pines also captured part of the confrontation.

The complaint says video appeared to show Jones firing toward a man believed to be Parkhurst.

The man believed to be Parkhurst then appeared to fire back at Jones.

Investigators estimated the exchange happened around 10:40 p.m.

Parkhurst Says Jones Fired First

Parkhurst was arrested July 24 and later gave investigators a statement.

He said a cousin told him someone had displayed a gun during an earlier confrontation.

Parkhurst said he grabbed his .22-caliber revolver and went outside.

He told police that Jones fired at him first.

Parkhurst said he returned fire and was then shot.

He said he ran toward the hotel and threw his revolver onto the roof.

Parkhurst told investigators he did not intend to shoot anyone.

Felony Assault Charge Filed

Prosecutors charged Parkhurst with second-degree assault involving a dangerous weapon.

The charge carries up to seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine.

The complaint also lists a three-year mandatory minimum sentence.
