Bemidji Man Charged After Highway 2 Traffic Stop

Beltrami County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bemidji man is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 2 in Beltrami County.

Traffic Stop Leads To Multiple Charges

According to a criminal complaint filed in Beltrami County District Court, Travis Keith Thompson, 41, of Bemidji, was charged following a June 27, 2026, traffic stop.

Thompson is facing a gross misdemeanor charge for driving after his license was cancelled as inimical to public safety.

He is also charged with driving without a required ignition interlock device and operating an uninsured vehicle.

The complaint states the stop happened at about 10:15 a.m. on U.S. Highway 2 in Beltrami County.

A trooper reportedly observed a black Cadillac CTS sedan with very dark window tint.

The vehicle was stopped because of the suspected equipment violation.

Driver Reportedly Admitted License And Insurance Issues

The complaint states Thompson was the only person inside the vehicle.

During the stop, Thompson reportedly told authorities he did not have identification with him.

He allegedly stated his driver’s license was suspended because he did not have an ignition interlock device.

Authorities later identified the driver as Travis Keith Thompson.

The complaint states Thompson also told authorities the vehicle did not have insurance.

A records check reportedly showed Thompson’s driving privileges had been cancelled for public safety reasons.

Records also showed he had an ignition interlock restriction connected to his driving privileges.

Vehicle Reportedly Did Not Have Ignition Interlock

According to the complaint, authorities did not find a functioning ignition interlock device installed in the vehicle.

The device is required for some drivers with alcohol-related driving restrictions.

The complaint states that Thompson was arrested after the investigation.

The charges include:

Driving after cancellation-inimical to public safety, a gross misdemeanor.
Driving without required ignition interlock equipment, a gross misdemeanor.
Operating an uninsured vehicle, a misdemeanor.

Previous Criminal History Listed In Complaint

The complaint lists several prior convictions in Minnesota court records.

Those records include previous felony DWI convictions from 2010 and 2020.

The complaint also lists prior convictions involving fleeing in a motor vehicle and disorderly conduct.

Charges in a criminal complaint are allegations. Thompson is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
