Bemidji Man Charged After Fight Video Surfaces

BEMIDJI, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Jordan James Greeno faces two misdemeanor charges after a May 15 dispute at a Bemidji apartment.

Beltrami County prosecutors charged Greeno with domestic assault and falsely reporting a crime. The case was filed in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.

The complaint says police responded to a 911 hang-up at about 3 a.m. Greeno and Tamia Johnson told officers that Greeno’s former girlfriend, identified as M.P., entered the apartment and attacked them.

Initial Report Led to Arrest Effort

Greeno claimed M.P. slapped him and struck him with a frying pan. He also said she threw a trash can and made threats.

Based on those statements, authorities developed probable cause to arrest M.P. She later surrendered and was taken to the Beltrami County Jail.

However, investigators later reviewed parking lot video, text messages, and a cellphone recording. The complaint says that evidence did not support key parts of Greeno’s account.

Video Showed a Different Sequence

M.P. told investigators that Preston Kern had received the apartment address from Greeno. Kern also said Greeno invited him to the residence.

M.P. said she went there to return Greeno’s property. She admitted throwing water on him during an argument.

According to the complaint, the cellphone video showed Greeno punching M.P. in the face and neck. The video also showed him pulling her hair.

M.P. fought back, and the two wrestled on the floor. Kern then stepped in and pulled Greeno away.

M.P. admitted striking Greeno with a pan while Kern held him down. She said Greeno then took the pan and hit her.

A juvenile witness also disputed Greeno’s claim about a knife. The witness said M.P. never asked anyone to bring one.

Charges and Possible Penalties

Prosecutors allege Greeno acted to make a household member fear immediate harm. That charge falls under Minnesota’s domestic assault law.

They also allege he knowingly gave false information to police. That charge falls under Minnesota’s false reporting law.

Each misdemeanor carries up to 90 days in jail. Each also carries a possible fine of up to $1,000.

Greeno is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. A criminal complaint contains allegations, not a finding of guilt.
