TURTLE MOUNTAIN RESERVATION (trfnews.i234.me) — On December 29, a Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) police officer fatally shot a man near Sky Dancer Casino in Belcourt, North Dakota. The individual was identified as Jordan Parisien, according to Alysia LaCounte, tribal counsel for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians.

Law enforcement received reports of an armed, suicidal individual. Upon locating Parisien driving erratically, officers instructed him to exit his vehicle. During this encounter, one officer discharged their weapon, resulting in Parisien’s death. Initial reports suggested an exchange of gunfire; however, it was later clarified that Parisien did not fire a weapon.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is leading the primary investigation into the incident, with an internal review being conducted by the BIA Office of Justice Services. Further details are pending as the investigation continues.
