BECKER COUNTY, MN ( trfnews.i234.me ) — A Barnesville man is facing several felony charges after a woman called 911, saying he was trying to kill her near Detroit Lakes.
According to court records, 42-year-old Brett Allen Anderson has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony threats of violence, felony domestic assault, felony fifth-degree drug possession, and misdemeanor possession of metal knuckles.
On the night of September 17, Becker County deputies responded to a 911 call on County Highway 22. Dispatchers reported hearing a woman cry for help, saying a man was trying to kill her.
When deputies arrived, they found Anderson in a Mercedes-Benz and a woman crying beside her locked car. The woman told officers she had called Anderson for help after her car broke down. Instead, he became angry, tried to pry open her car door with a hammer and pry bar, and threatened to hurt and kill her. Deputies noted pry marks and damage to the vehicle.
A search of Anderson’s vehicle reportedly uncovered more than 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine, brass knuckles, hydrocodone pills, glass pipes, cash, THC products, and fake $100 bills. Investigators also found syringes and other drug paraphernalia.
Records show Anderson has a criminal history that includes felony threats of violence and domestic assault from 2020, and a 2015 domestic assault conviction.
On September 19, District Judge Michelle W. Lawson set bail at $30,000 without conditions, or $15,000 with conditions. Those conditions include staying at least 1,000 feet from the victim and her home, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and undergoing random testing. He is also banned from possessing weapons and remains under pre-trial supervision. A no-contact order is in place.
Anderson’s next court hearing is scheduled for October 13 in Becker County District Court.
