Barnesville Man Faces Three Assault Charges

Barnesville (trfnews.i234.me) — A Clay County man faces three misdemeanor assault charges after a July 16 disturbance near Barnesville.

Jamie Paul Hanson, 50, is charged with one count of misdemeanor domestic assault. He also faces two misdemeanor fifth-degree assault charges.

The charges were filed in Clay County District Court. The court case number is 14-CR-26-2524.

Complaint Describes Late-Night Disturbance

Law enforcement was called to a home on Highway 9 South around 10:19 p.m. The caller reported that several people had been assaulted.

According to the complaint, Hanson’s son had friends at the property. The group was working on an old pickup truck.

Hanson allegedly came around a corner while yelling and telling everyone to leave. His son said Hanson then rushed toward him.

The son believed Hanson planned to harm him, according to the complaint. Punches were then exchanged during the confrontation.

The complaint alleges Hanson placed his son in a headlock several times. The son’s shirt was torn during the incident.

Other people tried to separate Hanson from his son. One person allegedly was bitten while trying to pull Hanson away.

A second person also tried to stop the confrontation. Hanson allegedly struck that person in the face with a closed fist.

Other witnesses gave accounts supporting the three reported assaults, according to the complaint.

Authorities searched for Hanson that night. They did not find him at the residence.

Hanson was located outside the home around 6:53 a.m. the next day.

Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail. Each charge also carries a possible $1,000 fine.

Those penalties would apply only after a conviction. The case remains pending in Clay County District Court.
