Bagley Woman Accused of Assaulting Deputy

Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Bagley woman is facing two criminal charges after prosecutors say she assaulted a peace officer during an attempted arrest and then fled into heavy woods in Mahnomen County.

Woman Faces Two Charges

According to a criminal complaint filed in Mahnomen County District Court, Laura Lee Thompson, 24, of Bagley, has been charged with fourth-degree assault against a peace officer, a gross misdemeanor, and fleeing a peace officer on foot, a misdemeanor.

The charges stem from an incident on June 1, 2025. Court records state that authorities were responding to a report involving a suicidal individual believed to be in the area of Blair Road.

When deputies arrived, they found that the people inside a parked vehicle were not the people they were searching for. A third person was seen walking away toward a wooded area.

Attempted Identification

According to the complaint, the woman identified herself only as “Jordan.” She reportedly gave conflicting answers about why she was at the property.

Investigators say they recognized the woman as Laura Lee Thompson because they were familiar with her from previous warrant information.

Court documents state Thompson allegedly had seven active Mahnomen County warrants at the time.

Authorities say she refused to provide complete identifying information and acted in an evasive manner during questioning.

Alleged Struggle in the Woods

According to prosecutors, officers directed Thompson to return to the front of the residence.

Instead, authorities say she ran into nearby woods.

The complaint alleges that an officer caught up with Thompson and attempted to detain her.

During the struggle, prosecutors claim Thompson punched and kicked the officer several times.

The alleged assault occurred while officers were attempting to arrest Thompson on the outstanding warrants.

Witnesses nearby reported hearing calls for help and ran toward the wooded area.

According to the complaint, they saw Thompson striking the officer before she broke free.

Authorities say Thompson escaped deeper into the woods after slipping away during the struggle.

Search Ends Without Arrest

The complaint states that officers from neighboring Becker County later located Thompson in the area.

However, thick woods and difficult terrain prevented officers from taking her into custody.

Despite several searches, authorities were unable to locate her that day.

The criminal complaint later resulted in charges being filed in Mahnomen County District Court.

Potential Penalties

The assault charge carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both if convicted.

The fleeing charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations. Laura Lee Thompson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
