Pennington County, Minnesota – Cory Robert Jones, 36, has been arrested and charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon following an intoxicated altercation involving a firearm on February 16, 2025.

According to court documents:
- Deputies responded to Jones’ residence after he made an incoherent call to dispatch, stating he had a weapon and feared people were after him.
- Upon arrival, Jones complied with officers and exited his home.
- Deputies found blood, bullet holes in the walls and ceiling, and a broken window inside the residence.
- A bolt-action rifle was located on Jones’ bed.
Investigation & Witness Statements:
- Ryan Houle and Cassandra Jones (Jones’ sister) reported that Jones was heavily intoxicated.
- The group had been drinking and smoking in the garage when Jones became agitated after injuring his leg.
- Jones allegedly pointed a rifle at Houle inside the house.
- Houle wrestled with Jones to disarm him, during which Jones fired multiple shots at the ceiling and out the window.
- Houle admitted to hitting Jones in self-defense while trying to take the rifle away.
- After subduing Jones, Houle took the rifle and left with Cassandra Jones.
Law Enforcement Findings:
- A .308 rifle matching the one used in the incident was recovered from Houle’s vehicle.
- Jones was hospitalized with injuries, but he could not recall much of the day’s events.
- Following his medical evaluation, Jones was transported to Pennington County Jail and charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

A second-degree assault conviction in Minnesota carries up to 7 years in prison and fines up to $14,000.
