  1. Should have called it Scamtrak. It loose millions of $ each and every year only too be picked up by the American tax payers. Not only is it a costly way to travel it is just another governmental waste.

  2. I’ve been watching Amtrak videos, especially Empire Builder, on YouTube thinking it might be a fun thing to do in retirement. Invariably the videos start with the wonderful stations in Chicago, or on West Coast, and totally skip the run through North MN and Dakota because it’s the middle of the night. Great if you live in Chicago or Seattle! From those points you leave at a convenient hour & arrive just in time to go to your meeting or check into your hotel. If I want to ride to Spokane I have to get on & off at 3 am both ends.

Amtrak always seems financially challenged! Maybe they could cut one train every week by scheduling a single midweek departure on 36 hours vs 24 hours turn around. Nobody is delayed more than 12 hours and I could adapt my schedule to allow boarding & departure mid day on both ends. If you don’t want to get dumped off in Chicago or Spokane at 3 AM just take the train on any other day.
