DETROIT LAKES (trfnews.i234.me) — Daniel Scott Leslie faces a gross misdemeanor charge after a gas station call.
The incident happened September 9, 2026, at ARCO AMACO and Bait Gas Station in Detroit Lakes.
According to a Becker County court complaint, someone reported a man who appeared to be sleeping behind the wheel.
The man was reportedly inside a pickup parked beside a gas pump.
Deputy Finds Running Pickup at Gas Pump
A responding deputy found Leslie sitting in the driver’s seat of a white Chevrolet Silverado, the complaint states.
The truck’s engine was still running when the deputy arrived.
Authorities identified Leslie and checked his driving status through dispatch.
The check showed his driving privileges had been canceled as inimical to public safety, according to the complaint.
That designation means his driving privileges had been canceled because of public safety concerns.
Leslie reportedly told the deputy he knew he should not be driving.
He also said he was alone and tired from working long hours.

Gross Misdemeanor Charge Filed
Leslie is charged under Minnesota Statute 171.24, subdivision 5.
The law covers driving after certain license cancellations or denials.
Prosecutors must prove he drove while prohibited and knew, or should have known, about the cancellation.
The charge is classified as a gross misdemeanor under Minnesota law.
If convicted, Leslie could face up to 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.
Those penalties are possible maximums, not a sentence imposed in this case.
Case Moves Through Becker County Court
The case is assigned to Becker County District Court, part of Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District.
Court documents list the case number as 03-CR-26-1938.
The complaint is marked as a summons and does not describe an arrest during the gas station encounter.
The deputy’s account also does not state that he personally saw the pickup moving.
Instead, the complaint describes the running vehicle, the license status check, and Leslie’s statements.
The state alleges Leslie operated a vehicle despite knowing his driving privileges had been canceled.
Where to Find Court Updates
Readers can search for public case information through Minnesota Court Records Online.
The court file number can help readers locate available records and future updates.
The complaint provided for this report does not include a plea, court ruling, or final case outcome.
The charge remains an allegation. Leslie is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
