Grand Forks: Fargo Woman Charged in Violent Robbery

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – A Fargo woman faces a felony robbery charge following an alleged assault and theft in downtown Grand Forks.

Megan Frances Whitetail, 37, was arrested Tuesday, October 13, 2026, by the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office.

Whitetail is charged with Class B felony robbery involving serious bodily injury.

The charge stems from a September incident that allegedly left a woman with facial injuries and temporary vision loss.

If convicted, Whitetail could face up to 10 years in prison.

Woman Reports Being Kicked in Face Near Hugo’s

According to court documents, the alleged robbery happened September 13 outside Hugo’s grocery store at 500 Demers Avenue.

The woman told investigators she was lying on the ground when Whitetail approached her.

Whitetail allegedly kicked the woman in the face before taking her blue Motorola cellphone.

The stolen phone was valued at approximately $175, according to the criminal complaint.

The woman reported severe pain and temporary loss of vision in her right eye following the alleged assault.

Investigators also interviewed a witness who supported the woman’s account, court documents stated.

Police Discover Injuries During Welfare Check

The Grand Forks Police Department learned about the alleged attack during a welfare check two days later.

Officers responded to Centennial Park at approximately 3:29 p.m. on September 15, 2026.

During the welfare check, officers noticed visible injuries on the woman’s face.

According to court documents, she had two large bruises on the right side of her face.

She also had a black eye.

The woman told investigators that Whitetail caused the injuries during the September 13 incident.

Police documented the allegations as part of their investigation into the reported robbery.

Fargo Woman Faces Class B Felony

Whitetail was later arrested by the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office in connection with the investigation.

Prosecutors charged her with robbery involving serious bodily injury, a Class B felony under North Dakota law.

A Class B felony carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a possible $20,000 fine.

The actual penalty, if convicted, would depend on the court’s decision and applicable sentencing laws.

Additional information about North Dakota robbery laws is available through the North Dakota Legislative Branch.

Suspect Remains in Custody Ahead of Hearing

According to the supplied court information, Whitetail was being held at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center.

She made her initial court appearance Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

The court also prohibited Whitetail from contacting the alleged victim.

Her next scheduled appearance is a preliminary hearing on November 23, 2026, at 9 a.m.

During that hearing, the court will consider whether sufficient evidence supports moving the felony case forward.

Readers can review publicly available case information through the North Dakota Court System.

The criminal charge is an allegation and does not establish guilt.

Whitetail is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
