Sandstone Man Hurt in Highway 23 Deer Crash

Sandstone (trfnews.i234.me) — A Sandstone man was hurt Sunday morning after his motorcycle struck a deer on Highway 23.

Winston Floyd Lievsay, 33, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The crash happened around 8:05 a.m. September 13 in Sandstone Township.

The Minnesota State Patrol said the crash happened near Highway 23 milepost 286.

Deer Runs Into Highway

Lievsay was riding a 2022 ZHNG Racestar 150 south on Highway 23.

According to the State Patrol, a deer ran across the highway from east to west.

The motorcycle struck the deer and then went down.

No other vehicles were listed as being involved in the crash.

The road was dry when the collision happened.

The State Patrol reported that Lievsay was wearing a helmet.

Alcohol was not suspected as a factor in the crash.

Emergency crews responded after the motorcycle went down.

Lievsay was transported to Essentia Health-Sandstone for treatment.

His injuries were listed as non-life-threatening in the State Patrol report.

The Pine County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Essentia Ambulance also responded to the crash.

The Sandstone Fire Department provided additional assistance.

The State Patrol assigned incident number 26271955 to the crash.

The case is being handled through the agency’s Duluth district.
