Fergus Falls: Goltz Faces Knife Assault Charges

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me) — Seth Thomas Goltz faces three charges after a roadside disturbance in Otter Tail County.

Goltz, 39, is charged in District Court file 56-CR-26-2192.

The charges include felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

He also faces domestic assault and obstructing legal process charges.

The alleged incident happened on Sept. 3, 2026.

Vehicle Stops in Intersection

The complaint says deputies responded near U.S. Highway 59 and County Highway 88.

A vehicle was stopped in the intersection when law enforcement arrived.

Goltz was sitting in the passenger seat, according to prosecutors.

A close relative had been driving Goltz toward his Fergus Falls home.

The relative told police he missed an interstate exit and began turning around.

Goltz allegedly became upset and said he needed to travel to Fargo instead.

Prosecutors say Goltz reached across the driver and grabbed the steering wheel.

The vehicle was still moving at the time.

The driver reported that approaching traffic made the situation dangerous.

He stopped the car in the intersection and removed the keys.

No law enforcement officer names are included in this report.

Knife Allegedly Displayed

Deputies later told Goltz he was being placed under arrest.

The complaint says Goltz refused to leave the vehicle.

Officers continued asking him to exit voluntarily.

Prosecutors say Goltz then reached into a backpack on his lap.

He allegedly pulled out a large folding knife and displayed the open blade.

Officers repeatedly asked Goltz to put the knife down.

The complaint says he eventually placed it on the dashboard.

Police then opened the passenger door and took Goltz into custody.

A dagger was allegedly found in his pocket.

Investigators also reported finding several other knives on the passenger floorboard.

Three Charges Filed

Count One alleges second-degree assault under Minnesota Statute 609.222.

The felony carries up to seven years in prison.

A fine of up to $14,000 is also possible.

Count Two alleges misdemeanor domestic assault.

The charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.2242.

That count carries up to 90 days and a $1,000 fine.

Count Three alleges obstructing legal process with force or threatened force.

The charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.50.

The complaint lists up to 364 days and a $3,000 fine.

Charges Remain Allegations

The criminal complaint contains allegations that have not been proven in court.

Goltz is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
