Crookston Woman Faces 911 Interference, Assault Charges

Crookston (trfnews.i234.me) — Faith Evelyn Porter faces two charges following a reported domestic incident in Crookston.

Prosecutors charged Porter with interference with an emergency call.

She also faces a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.

The emergency-call charge is a gross misdemeanor.

It carries up to 364 days in jail, a $3,000 fine, or both.

Emergency Call Reported

The criminal complaint says law enforcement responded to an apartment after receiving an emergency call.

The caller was Porter’s boyfriend, identified in court records by the initials E.C.

He reported that Porter was in distress and refusing to leave the apartment.

Dispatchers reported that the emergency call was being interrupted as the situation became more tense.

Authorities arrived and found Porter and E.C. arguing outside the apartment building.

The complaint says Porter then went back inside before returning outside.

Authorities reported that Porter had injuries and needed medical attention.

An ambulance was requested to evaluate her.

E.C. later spoke with investigators about what happened inside the apartment.

He said the two were in a romantic relationship and lived together.

According to the complaint, an argument began after their relationship was discussed.

E.C. said he asked Porter to leave, but she refused.

He then called 911 because he believed emergency help was needed.

Prosecutors allege Porter tried to take the phone while E.C. spoke with dispatchers.

The complaint says Porter then struck E.C. during the confrontation.

E.C. reported pain and injuries following the incident.

Authorities allege Porter intentionally interfered with his efforts to complete the emergency call.

Porter was detained while authorities waited for medical assistance.

The complaint says she was taken to Riverview Health for further evaluation.

She was later medically cleared for incarceration.

Porter was then transported to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center.

Court records contain a date difference within the charging document.

The charges list August 18, while the probable-cause narrative describes an August 17 response.

The emergency-call charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.78.

The statute prohibits intentionally interfering with or preventing another person from making an emergency call.
