Crookston Court No-Show Leads to Felony Charge

Crookston (trfnews.i234.me) — Grant William Lafrinier faces a felony charge for allegedly failing to appear in Polk County District Court.

The new case follows two missed court appearances in an earlier felony prosecution.

Prosecutors say Lafrinier was required to attend future hearings as a condition of his release.

The failure-to-appear charge carries up to two-and-a-half years in prison.

It also carries a possible fine of up to $5,000.

Earlier Felony Case

Lafrinier first appeared in the earlier Polk County case on September 2, 2025.

That case included felony drug possession and jail contraband charges, according to the complaint.

The court set unconditional bail at $20,000 cash or bond.

Lafrinier also had the option for release under several non-financial conditions.

One condition required him to attend every future court appearance.

The complaint says Lafrinier was also warned that missing court could result in another criminal charge.

According to prosecutors, Lafrinier failed to attend a pretrial hearing on June 23, 2026.

A warrant was then issued but stayed until June 25.

The delay gave Lafrinier another opportunity to appear, according to court records.

Prosecutors say Lafrinier also failed to appear on June 25.

The arrest warrant then became active.

Authorities located Lafrinier in Mahnomen County on June 26 and arrested him.

The new complaint identifies June 26 as the offense date.

The probable-cause statement describes the missed hearings on June 23 and June 25.

Prosecutors charged Lafrinier under Minnesota Statute 609.49.

The law covers intentional failure to appear after release in connection with a felony case.

The statute ties the maximum punishment to the penalty for the underlying felony.

The new case is filed as State of Minnesota v. Grant William Lafrinier.

The court file number is 60-CR-26-1069 in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.

The earlier case is listed as court file 60-CR-25-1279.
