Fosston Man Faces DWI, Child Endangerment Charges
Fosston (trfnews.i234.me) — Cody Brian Larson faces four charges after a June traffic stop in Polk County.
Prosecutors charged Larson with second-degree DWI involving a controlled substance.
He also faces driving after cancellation and child endangerment charges.
A fourth count alleges failure to transfer a vehicle title within required time limits.
The alleged offenses happened on June 26, 2026.
Second-Degree DWI Charge
According to the complaint, law enforcement saw Larson driving a green passenger vehicle on County Road 1.
Authorities recognized Larson and knew he had active warrants.
The vehicle was later found parked at a nearby residence.
Larson confirmed his identity after law enforcement approached him.
The complaint says his Minnesota driving privileges had been canceled as inimical to public safety.
Investigators also reported that the vehicle was not registered to Larson.
Authorities said Larson appeared very tired and repeatedly nodded off during the encounter.
The complaint also says he was sweating heavily and speaking slowly.
Larson denied illegal drug use and reported only using prescribed Suboxone.
Child Found Inside Vehicle
Authorities spoke with a passenger and saw a one-year-old child secured in the back seat.
Prosecutors allege the child’s presence created one aggravating factor for the DWI charge.
The complaint also cites a qualified prior impaired-driving incident as another aggravating factor.
Minnesota law classifies second-degree DWI as a gross misdemeanor with two or more aggravating factors.
The charge carries up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine.
Larson also faces a gross misdemeanor child endangerment charge.
Prosecutors allege the situation could have substantially harmed the child’s health or safety.
The child endangerment law is found in Minnesota Statute 609.378.
Blood Test Detects Drugs
Larson was taken to the Northwest Regional Corrections Center after his arrest.
The complaint says he first agreed to provide a urine sample.
Authorities reported that he was unable to provide one.
Larson then agreed to provide a blood sample.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension received the sample on July 1.
Laboratory testing was completed on July 23, according to the complaint.
The test detected amphetamine and methamphetamine, prosecutors allege.
License and Title Charges
Larson also faces driving after cancellation as inimical to public safety.
That gross misdemeanor carries up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine.
The complaint says his driving privileges were canceled in January 2026.
The law is available under Minnesota Statute 171.24.
A fourth count alleges Larson failed to complete the required vehicle title transfer.
The cited title law is Minnesota Statute 168A.30.
