Ponsford Man Charged in Meth Sale Case

Ponsford, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Ponsford man is facing felony drug charges after authorities say a search of his home uncovered methamphetamine and items linked to drug sales.

Felony Drug Charges Filed

William Lawrence Butcher Sr., 64, of Ponsford, has been charged in Becker County District Court.

The complaint lists two felony counts. The charges include third-degree drug sale and fifth-degree drug possession.

The case involves allegations that Butcher possessed and intended to sell methamphetamine.

The charges were filed in Becker County under Minnesota law. Court information is available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.

Search Leads to Evidence Collection

According to the criminal complaint, authorities executed a search warrant at a residence on Amik Avenue in Ponsford.

Investigators reported finding a red zip-top coin purse containing a white crystal substance and small baggies.

A second container with a similar substance was also located inside the home.

The complaint states that additional items were found in a locked bedroom closet.

Those items included unused small plastic baggies, cash, and other items described as drug-related evidence.

Testing Shows Methamphetamine

The complaint states that testing by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified methamphetamine in the seized substance.

Officials reported the amount was about six grams.

Investigators said the packaging materials, cash, and amount of suspected drugs were consistent with an amount held for sale.

Defense Claims Included in Complaint

According to the complaint, Butcher told investigators he lived at the home for several months.

He said the locked closet was his bedroom closet and that he had access to it.

Butcher reportedly denied ownership of the drugs found during the search.

The complaint also states that a witness told investigators people had visited the home seeking drugs.

The witness alleged Butcher sold small amounts of methamphetamine.

Court Case Pending

Butcher is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The case remains pending in Becker County District Court.
