Karlstad Man Charged in Marshall County Assault

Marshall County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Karlstad man is facing a felony assault charge after a reported June 2026 incident that left a woman injured.

Shane Scott Stone, 54, of Karlstad, is charged with third-degree assault causing substantial bodily harm. The charge was filed in Marshall County District Court.

The case involves an alleged assault reported to authorities after the victim received medical treatment in Thief River Falls.

Assault Report Leads to Felony Charge

Court documents state the alleged assault happened on June 21, 2026, in Marshall County.

According to the criminal complaint, Stone is accused of assaulting Tiffany Nelson. The complaint states Nelson suffered multiple injuries, including a concussion.

The complaint alleges Stone kicked Nelson in the head, pulled her hair, and threw her around during the incident.

The charge carries a possible sentence of up to five years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.

Victim Reports Injuries

The complaint states that a family member contacted authorities on June 23, 2026, to report the alleged assault.

The report said Nelson was taken to a Thief River Falls hospital after the incident.

Nelson later contacted authorities and said she wanted to pursue charges.

She reported that Stone was at her residence when he became angry and began yelling.

She told investigators she did not remember everything that happened during the assault.

The complaint states Nelson remembered being pulled by her hair and thrown around.

She also reported that her cellphone was taken during the incident, preventing her from calling for help.

Court Case Moves Forward

Medical records described injuries including bruising to Nelson’s arms, jaw, and temple.

The complaint states Nelson was seeking a protection order against Stone.

Court records also state Stone was already under release conditions in Pennington County related to previous drug charges and a DWI case.

The allegations contained in a criminal complaint are not proof of guilt. Stone is considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
