Warroad Man Charged After Pills Found in Vehicle

Warroad, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) — A Warroad man faces a felony drug charge after a June traffic stop in Roseau County.

Derrin Andrew Forpahl, 49, is charged with fifth-degree controlled substance possession. The case was filed in Roseau County District Court.

The charge is a felony under Minnesota law. Court records list a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

The charge may also carry a fine of up to $10,000. Those penalties are possible outcomes, not a sentence.

Vehicle Stopped Near Warroad

According to the complaint, a state trooper was traveling north on Highway 313. The patrol was near the Marvin plant outside Warroad.

The trooper saw a vehicle cross the fog line around 10:36 p.m. Part of one tire also entered the Taylor Road turn lane.

The trooper then stopped the vehicle. Forpahl was identified as the driver.

The complaint says his movements appeared slow and deliberate. The trooper also reported a fruity smell coming from the vehicle.

Those observations led to field sobriety tests. The complaint describes several signs of possible impairment during those tests.

Forpahl allegedly struggled with balance, instructions, and heel-to-toe steps. A preliminary breath test showed no alcohol.

Forpahl told officers he had diabetes. An ambulance was called to check for a possible medical issue.

Three Pills Allegedly Found

The complaint says Forpahl later allowed officers to search the vehicle. That search allegedly found three orange, oval pills.

Forpahl reportedly identified the pills as Adderall. He also reportedly said he did not have a prescription.

Authorities identified the pills as 30-milligram dextroamphetamine. Dextroamphetamine is listed as a Schedule II controlled substance.

Prosecutors allege the pills formed the basis for the felony charge.

A search warrant was later approved for a blood sample. The complaint says the sample was collected at 12:55 p.m.

It was packaged for testing by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Readers can review Minnesota Statute 152.025 for the charged offense.

Public case information may also be available through Minnesota Court Records Online.

Forpahl is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The complaint contains allegations and does not establish guilt.
