Mahnomen County (trfnews.i234.me) — A Perley woman is facing a felony charge in Mahnomen County District Court after two e-check payments allegedly failed for lack of funds.

Crystal Ann Hegreberg, of Perley, has been charged with issuing a dishonored check valued at more than $500.

The charge was filed under Minnesota Statute 609.535. Court records list the offense level as a felony.

If convicted, Hegreberg could face up to five years in prison. She could also face a $10,000 fine, or both.

Complaint Details

According to the complaint, the case involves two electronic checks sent by West Main Auto in Mahnomen.

The checks were allegedly sent to Trophy House in Detroit Lakes on August 21, 2025.

The complaint says the payments were for a sign ordered through Trophy House.

The two e-checks were listed as $342 and $584.61. Together, they totaled more than $500.

Eric Rulius, who works at Trophy House, told investigators the product was ready for pickup.

Because of prior payment concerns, he requested payment before releasing the product.

Court documents say West Main Auto used QuickBooks to send the e-checks.

Rulius reportedly received confirmation that payment had been made.

After that confirmation, Hegreberg allegedly picked up the products from Trophy House.

Payment Demand Sent

The complaint says the bank later processed the e-checks.

One or two days later, Rulius was notified that the account had insufficient funds.

Rulius told investigators he exchanged several emails with Crystal Ann Hegreberg and Kasey Wilhelm Hegreberg.

Those emails allegedly informed them about the failed payments.

Rulius said he also requested payment several times.

On September 8, 2025, Rulius sent a certified letter and a demand for payment.

The letter was sent to Kasey Hegreberg and Crystal Ann Hegreberg.

Court documents say the certified letter was delivered on September 12, 2025.

The complaint alleges that no payment was made after the letter was delivered.

Investigators later spoke with Crystal Ann Hegreberg about the insufficient funds.

According to the complaint, she said she forgot to pay.

She also said she would go online that night to see if payment could be made.

Court Case Filed

The case is filed in Mahnomen County District Court under court file number 44-CR-25-804.

The document is listed as a summons complaint in Minnesota’s Ninth Judicial District.

More information about Minnesota court access is available through the Minnesota Judicial Branch.

A criminal complaint is not a conviction.

Hegreberg is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
