Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — A Thief River Falls man is facing a third-degree DWI charge after a traffic stop early March 14, according to a criminal complaint.

Traffic Stop Near Third Street

The stop happened at about 1:23 a.m. near Third Street and LaBree Avenue.

Police arrested Kyle Lewis Erickson, 23, of Thief River Falls.

He has been charged with third-degree driving while impaired.

A charge is an allegation. It is not a conviction.

What The Complaint Says

According to the complaint, an officer saw signs of possible impairment during the stop.

When Erickson opened the vehicle door, the officer reported seeing a Busch Light beer can in the door.

The complaint said Erickson made comments suggesting he expected to be arrested.

It also said he turned around and placed his hands behind his back.

Investigators said Erickson later took field sobriety tests and did not pass them.

He was then taken to the Law Enforcement Center.

At that location, the complaint said Erickson made another statement indicating the officer had caught him.

Reported BAC Result

According to court documents, a preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.16.

The complaint said a DMT test also showed a 0.16 result.

In Minnesota, a reported alcohol concentration of 0.16 can be an aggravating factor in a DWI case.

That can raise a charge to third-degree DWI. Official state information is available here:

What Happens Next

The case is expected to move through the court process in the Minnesota district court.

Members of the public can look for court updates through the state system.
