Grand Forks Man Charged with Felony DWI After Crash

CROOKSTON, Minn. (trfnews.i234.me— A Grand Forks man is facing felony DWI charges after a two-vehicle crash in Polk County last November that left another driver injured.

According to court documents, Vicente Gomez, 54, has been charged with first-degree DWI, DWI with a BAC over 0.08, and criminal vehicular operation resulting in bodily harm. The charges stem from a crash at the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 220 in Polk County.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that Gomez was driving a 1990 GMC Sierra when he collided with a Subaru Outback driven by a woman identified as L.K.N.. The woman suffered leg and rib injuries and was treated at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Investigators said Gomez showed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, watery eyes, and the odor of alcohol. A preliminary breath test showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08, and a later blood test confirmed a BAC of 0.085. Gomez admitted to drinking a 12-pack of beer the night before the crash.

Court records show Gomez has multiple prior DWI convictions, including one in 2020 and another in July 2024. His North Dakota driver’s license was also revoked following a separate DUI refusal case in May 2024.

If convicted, Gomez faces up to seven years in prison and a fine of $14,000 on each felony DWI charge. The case remains under review in Polk County District Court.
