Cass County: Man Accused Of Knife, Guitar Attack

0

Cass County (trfnews.i234.me) — A man was arrested Thursday evening after police say he attacked his neighbor with a knife and a guitar during an altercation at an apartment complex.

Richard Thibert, who police say goes by “Bear,” was booked into the Cass County Jail. He faces charges of aggravated assault and terrorizing, according to court documents. The incident was reported around 7:37 p.m. at an apartment building.

What the police say happened

According to the report, the victim told officers he had been at Thibert’s apartment since about 5:30 p.m. The man said the two were drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana while playing guitar.

The victim described the interaction as friendly banter at first. He told police he made a comment that upset Thibert.

Police say Thibert then grabbed a folding knife and slashed at the man near his left thigh. The victim also reported an underhand stabbing motion toward his ribs.

After putting the knife down, Thibert allegedly picked up the victim’s guitar and struck him over the head with it, according to the report.

The victim told officers Thibert threatened to kill him if he called the police.

Injuries and evidence

The victim suffered a deep cut on the right side of his head. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and possible stitches.

Investigators reported blood spatter on the guitar. The guitar also had a crack in its frame. Officers collected evidence, including the knife and guitar. Police also seized a marijuana pipe that Thibert admitted to using, along with a shirt that appeared to have blood on it.

Crime scene investigators collected blood samples from the guitar and shirt for testing, according to the report.

Arrest details

When officers arrived, police say Thibert initially denied knowing the victim and did not answer questions about the incident.

Police confirmed Thibert’s identity after calling a phone number the victim provided. Officers reported the phone rang inside Thibert’s apartment and was visible to them.

Police say Thibert later allowed officers into the apartment to collect items as evidence.

Background

The two men had been neighbors for about six months. The victim told police they had a joking relationship, but he also said he had noticed “red flags” in Thibert’s behavior when alcohol was involved.

Thibert remains in custody pending court proceedings. Charges are allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

Washington: New Epstein Photos Fuel Trump-Dems Clash

0

WASHINGTON (trfnews.i234.me) — House Democrats released a new batch of photos from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate on Friday.

The release included three images that show President Donald Trump in social settings.

Democrats said they are reviewing more than 95,000 images from the estate.

What Democrats released

The photos were shared by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee.

They said the pictures raise new questions about Epstein’s ties to powerful people.

Some faces were redacted in the images.

Democrats said the redactions were meant to protect victims and survivors.

File image used in Epstein coverage

Epstein died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial.

He faced federal charges tied to sex trafficking.

White House calls it a “hoax.”

The White House pushed back on the photo release.

A spokesperson accused Democrats of “cherry-picking” images for politics.

The White House has called the renewed focus on Trump and Epstein a “Democrat hoax.”

Trump has denied knowing about Epstein’s crimes.

Trump has said he cut ties with Epstein years before Epstein’s 2008 conviction.

Deadline for federal files is near

The photo release comes as pressure builds to publish more federal records.

A bipartisan law set a deadline for the Justice Department to release Epstein files.

That deadline is Dec. 19, 2025.

For background, readers can follow updates from national outlets:

Congress ramps up subpoenas talk

The photo release also landed amid an escalating fight inside Congress.

The committee’s Republican chair has warned of contempt steps in the inquiry.

That includes threats tied to testimony requests involving the Clintons.

Detroit Lakes: Burley Sentenced in Child Endangerment

0

Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — Alexandria Rose Burley, 28, of rural Detroit Lakes, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court.
She was sentenced on gross misdemeanor counts of child endangerment and neglect.

A felony charge of endangering a child was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
The case stems from injuries found on Burley’s 3-year-old son, according to court records.

Preschool Report and Hospital Visit

Court records say police were sent to a Detroit Lakes preschool on the morning of Sept. 23, 2024.
Staff reported the child had severe bruising on the back of his head and neck.

The child was placed on a medical cot by St. Mary’s EMS staff.
He was then taken to St. Mary’s Emergency Room.
A preschool teacher went along, records say.

An investigator later spoke with Burley.
Records say she reported seeing only a small mark on the child’s earlobe.
She said she did not know how the injuries happened.

Doctor Raises Concerns

An ER doctor told the investigator the injuries appeared more serious than self-harm.
The doctor said the child had bruises in different stages of healing, records say.
That suggested the injuries happened over time.

After more checks, the doctor said the child had a fractured skull.
The doctor also noted possible spinal injuries and anemia.
The child was transferred to a Sanford trauma center in Fargo, records say.

The child has since been removed from Burley’s care, according to the records summary.

Investigation Details

During a search of Burley’s home, her boyfriend denied harming the child, records say.
He told investigators he saw Burley push the child off a porch, according to the complaint.

Investigators asked Burley about the days leading up to Sept. 23, 2024.
Records say she claimed she was home with the child the whole time.
She reported only a short trip to the store.

When asked about texts mentioning drinking, Burley described a fall on a porch, records say.
She said she tripped over long pants and fell onto concrete.
She also said she bumped the child and he fell off the porch.
She admitted she had been drinking that evening, records say.

Later medical records from Fargo included notes that raised abuse and neglect concerns.
The records also referenced THC as part of the concerns, according to the complaint summary.

Sentence and Court Conditions

A Becker County judge sentenced Burley to 364 days in the Becker County Jail.
The court stayed 319 days for two years, with credit for two days served.

The court also imposed a $500 fine and $85 in court fees.
Burley was ordered not to drink alcohol or use drugs.
She was also ordered to complete assessments and evaluations.
She must follow all recommendations, including aftercare.
She was placed on supervised probation for two years.
