OMRO TOWNSHIP, Yellow Medicine County (trfnews.i234.me) — Two semi drivers were hurt after a collision at the intersection of Highway 67 and County Road 11 late Monday morning. The crash occurred at 11:35 a.m. on November 24. The Minnesota State Patrol released the crash report early that afternoon.
According to troopers, a 2023 Freightliner semi was traveling north on County Road 11. A 2015 Peterbilt semi was driving east on Highway 67. The vehicles collided in the intersection. Road conditions were dry during the crash. No passenger vehicles were involved.

The Freightliner was driven by Steven J. Iwiringi, 34, of Tooele, Utah. He suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the Dawson ER for emergency treatment. The State Patrol listed his seat belt use as “no.” Alcohol was not involved.
The Peterbilt semi was driven by Cody Leroy Johnson, 25, of Granite Falls. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was also taken to the Dawson ER. The report notes he was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol was not listed as a factor.
The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash. Canby Fire and Ambulance assisted with medical care and traffic control. Clarksfield Fire and Ambulance also responded. Dawson Ambulance transported both drivers from the scene. Significant damage was reported to both semis.
The crash caused delays at the intersection as crews worked on clean-up and recovery. Heavy equipment was used to remove the damaged trucks. No hazardous materials were reported at the scene.
Troopers remind drivers to slow down at rural intersections. Commercial vehicles need more space and time to stop. Even dry pavement cannot prevent serious injuries when large vehicles collide.
