Winter Forecast: Anticipating More Cold, Snow, and Flooding?

GRAND FORKS, ND (trfnews.i234.me) The National Weather Service is forecasting a high possibility of flooding in the Devils Lake Basin and in northeastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota.
it appears our respite from the usual cold January temperatures is over the National Weather Service is calling for colder snowier conditions for the rest of this winter however 2016 was the wettest year ever here in Grand Forks so it means the ground was still soaked when it froze up last fall and now there’s heavy snow on it so a late saw combined with heavy rains could quickly cause some major problem we should see it getting colder and again the colder the story or aspect just means that that means it could be a later spring thaw and so wet ground snow on the ground run off potential high it’s not as bad as the 97 years the 2009-2011 years it just means we’re going to see some flooding and we haven’t seen it for now a couple 23 years and that’s important series in people’s minds but if you get a six inch rain on top of that which isn’t that unusual and researchers you get devil in virtually now any of the sub-basin areas around here if they start getting that 23 inch rain even there could be pushing major flutter beyond it so that that just means you know back up into the watching things closely line the existing dike system now protects greater Grand Forks from high water however Gus says the latest long-range forecast calls for the high possibility of flooding along rivers in northeastern North Dakota along with the Cheyenne and james river valleys in North Dakota and as much as a four-foot rise on Devil’s Lake biggest flood threat is right now showing up in the Devils Lake basin for for very high runoffs in there and then pretty much all of these tributaries that are feeding on this through far northwest minnesota north of grand for and then the upper part of the Cheyenne Valley and of course into the upper James and if that forecast of a four foot rides on Devil’s Lake comes to fruition it means a lot of farmers who were beginning to reclaim land will lose it again so right now we have a good chance of seeing that three or four foot rise which means we’re going to be barking up pretty close to what those records blood levels which means thousands tens of thousands of acres of farmland going back underwater which means roadways that we’re finally getting dry going back under it means even the infrastructure around the lake you know some of those accesses boat ramps than that it’s like God darn as of today februari first it’s only 48 days until the first day of spring and a reality check on what actually happens regarding spring flooding this year in Grand Forks I’m Neil Berg reporting for I news da TV [Music]
