Mower County (trfnews.i234.me) A passenger died after a deer crash on Interstate 90 in Windom Township.

The crash led to a rear-end collision, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

What happened

The Minnesota State Patrol reports the crash happened at 8:54 p.m. Thursday, January 29, 2026.

The location was westbound I-90, just west of milepost 182, in Windom Township.

Troopers say a 2025 Subaru Outback was traveling west when it struck a deer.

The Subaru stayed in the traffic lane after the impact.

A 2010 Nissan Pathfinder was also westbound, according to the report.

The Nissan then collided with the Subaru that was stopped in the lane.

Two vehicles were involved, troopers reported.

People involved

Kent Joel Shultz, 61, of Osage, Iowa, was a passenger in the Subaru.

He died at the scene, according to the State Patrol.

The Subaru driver was Sarah Jean Shultz, 60, also from Osage.

She had injuries that were not life-threatening.

She was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin for care.

The Nissan driver was Amanda Rebecca Dunlap, 36, of Austin.

She was not injured, troopers reported.

Road conditions and response

The State Patrol listed the road condition as dry.

Airbags deployed in both vehicles, according to the report.

Seat belts were reported in use.

Alcohol was not suspected for either driver.

Mower County also helped at the scene.

The Austin Police Department, Mayo ambulance, and the Rose Creek Volunteer Fire Department also responded.

The incident is listed as a fatal crash under case number 26100370.

The case was handled by State Patrol District 2100 in Rochester.
