Wayne Paulson, 85

Eveleth – Wayne Arden Paulson, age 85, of Eveleth, passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and deep love for family, friends, and the outdoors.
Wayne was born on August 16, 1940, to Kernel and Edna Paulson in Grygla, where he grew up. His education began at a nearby one-room school. After graduating from Goodridge high school, he went on to pursue his passion for nature and learning, earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Bemidji State University and later a master’s degree in wildlife management from the University of Minnesota.
He began his career teaching 7th and 8th grade in Grygla before moving to Albert Lea, where he taught 8th grade science in nearby Alden. There, he also coached basketball and inspired young people both in the classroom and on the court. Wayne eventually returned to his roots in Grygla to carry on the family farming tradition. Though farming brought its share of challenges, it reflected Wayne’s resilience and strong work ethic.
Wayne later found his stride with Schwan’s Sales, where his dedication, personality, and tireless effort led him to become their #1 salesman in the country at one point. He built lasting relationships with customers and colleagues alike before retiring after 24 successful years.
Throughout his life, Wayne had a true passion for sports, playing card games, and the outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball and mixed league softball, and he remained an avid sports fan throughout his life. He found great joy in bird watching, fishing, and hunting—especially turkey hunting with friends and whitetail deer hunting with some of his children. These moments in nature were among his most treasured.
Above all, Wayne loved connecting with people. Whether visiting with family, sharing stories with friends, or chatting with customers, he brought warmth, humor, and an infectious laugh wherever he went. His strong work ethic and genuine spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Wayne is lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Lori Jo; his brothers, David (Connie) and Lyle (Lynda); his sister, Lois (Dave); his children, Ginny (Dan), Heather (Ed), Corey (Lisa), Devin, Jessie (Matt), and stepdaughter Kaylynn; as well as his 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews who brought him immense pride and joy.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at the Grygla Community Center, 127 Main Ave., Grygla, MN, on August 15, 2026, from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. All who knew and loved Wayne are welcome to join in honoring a life well lived. (Food and refreshments will be provided.)
