Becker County: Waubun Man Sentenced on Felony Cannabis Charge

Becker County (trfnews.i234.me) — A rural Waubun man has been sentenced in Becker County District Court following a February traffic stop that led to the discovery of large quantities of THC vapes and marijuana.

Dominic Lewis Kroulik, age 26, of rural Waubun, pleaded guilty to felony first-degree cannabis possession. In exchange for his plea, a felon in possession of ammunition charge and a gross misdemeanor second-degree cannabis charge were dismissed, according to court records.

The case stems from a February 26, 2025, incident when a Becker County deputy stopped a vehicle on County Road 21 after receiving a report that it was swerving and that someone had thrown a liquor bottle from the car. Kroulik was a passenger in the vehicle at the time.

During the search, deputies found $3,920 in cash and a box of Browning 9mm ammunition in the front passenger door. Officers also discovered 149 THC vape cartridges (2,000 mg each), totaling about 298 grams, along with more than 1.5 pounds of marijuana in the back seat. Another passenger reportedly told officers that the marijuana and THC were purchased through Snapchat.

Court documents note that Kroulik is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition due to a prior January 14, 2025 conviction for threats of violence.

On September 19, District Judge Michelle W. Lawson sentenced Kroulik to 15 months in prison at St. Cloud, which was stayed for five years. He was ordered to serve 15 days in jail, receiving credit for three days served, and granted Huber work release privileges.

Kroulik was fined $500 plus $75 in court fees and placed on supervised probation for five years. He must complete a comprehensive chemical assessment and cognitive skills training, and follow all recommended treatment and aftercare programs.

Under Minnesota law, first-degree cannabis possession is among the most serious drug-related offenses, reflecting the quantity of THC products seized in this case.
