Warroad, Minnesota (trfnews.i234.me) ā A Warroad woman is charged after two paychecks were cashed twice, court papers say.
What investigators allege
Mariah Lynn Lane, 33, of Warroad, faces one gross misdemeanor count of theft by swindle. The charge cites Minnesota Statute 609.52, subdivision 2(a)(4). Prosecutors say Lane used a mobile banking app to deposit two checks. They say she later cashed the same checks in person at a Bemidji bank.
The complaint says the issue was reported on November 20, 2025. The report came from the owner of The Public House in Warroad. The owner said the business saw the funds withdrawn twice.
Records from Ultima Bank were reviewed during the investigation. Those records listed two checks with matching amounts and dates.
Check No. 1028 was for $180.31, according to the complaint. It was deposited by phone on October 28, 2025. It was then cashed in person on November 18, 2025.
A second check, No. 1048, was for $394.32, the complaint says. It was deposited by phone on November 10, 2025. It was then cashed in person on November 12, 2025.
Investigators say the total loss was $574.63. Lane told investigators she thought the mobile deposits did not go through. Court papers say she gave no clear reason for cashing both checks.

Prior record and court process
Court records also list three prior misdemeanor theft convictions dating back to 2011. Lane was charged by summons, according to the filing. The complaint was signed by Judge Tamara Yon on January 14, 2026. The case was filed in court on January 15, 2026.
Court records list the alleged offense date as October 24, 2025. If convicted, Lane could face up to 364 days in jail. She could also face a fine of up to $3,000.
How to follow the case
Readers can look up public court entries through Minnesota Court Records Online. A criminal charge is not proof of guilt. Lane is presumed innocent unless convicted in court.
