Viking, MN (trfnews.i234.me) — A disturbing case out of Viking, Minnesota has led to serious criminal charges for Dillon Berg, who allegedly attempted to burn down a house with people inside on Tuesday.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a domestic assault in progress after a caller reported that Berg was trying to break into a home he had been kicked out of earlier in the day. The situation escalated when deputies arrived and found Berg in the backyard, starting fires dangerously close to the house.
Authorities say the fire was burning near a propane tank by a grill, and Berg repeatedly threatened to open the tank to cause a massive fire or explosion. A Marshall County deputy quickly grabbed a hose and sprayed water on the fire and the propane tank, which was sizzling from the heat.
As the deputy attempted to stop Berg, he resisted arrest and even took the hose, spraying the officer. Law enforcement was eventually able to subdue Berg without injuries, but the fire had already begun melting the siding of the home, where three people were inside at the time.
Berg allegedly made multiple threats to harm or kill the individuals in the house. He was taken into custody and is now facing serious charges, including: First-degree felony arson
Terroristic threats
Obstructing the legal process
Assault on a peace officer
He is currently being held in the Pennington County Jail in Thief River Falls on a $200,000 bond.
