VIKING MAN CHARGED WITH ARSON & TERRORISTIC THREATS AFTER ATTEMPTING TO BURN DOWN HOUSE WITH PEOPLE INSIDE

Marshall County (trfnews.i234.me) — On February 25 at 1:42 p.m., Marshall County deputies responded to a terrifying domestic violence incident in Viking, MN, where Dillon Charles Berg, 38, allegedly tried to break into a home and set it on fire.

🔹 WHAT HAPPENED?

  • Berg’s wife had kicked him out earlier that day—he returned intoxicated and began trying to force his way inside.
  • Deputies arrived to find Berg in the backyard, setting fires near the house, dangerously close to a propane tank and grill.
  • Berg repeatedly threatened to open the propane tank, warning that he wanted to create a larger fire or explosion.

🔹 FIRE NEARLY DESTROYS HOUSE

  • The fire melted siding on the home, but thankfully, no one was injured.
  • A deputy sprayed water on the fire and the propane tank, which sizzled from the heat.
  • Berg continued trying to open the propane tank while making violent threats against the three people inside the home.

🔹 RESISTING ARREST & ASSAULTING A DEPUTY

  • As deputies tried to subdue Berg, he grabbed the hose and sprayed a deputy with water.
  • Deputies struggled to arrest him, but he was eventually taken into custody without injuries.

🚨 CHARGES FILED:
Berg is now facing multiple felony charges, including:

  • First-Degree Arson (Felony)
  • Terroristic Threats (Felony)
  • Obstructing the Legal Process (Felony)
  • Fourth-Degree Assault of a Peace Officer (Gross Misdemeanor)

🚔 Berg remains incarcerated at the Pennington County Jail while awaiting court proceedings, as Marshall County inmates are being temporarily held there during jail renovations.
