BREAKING UPDATE at 3:33 PM — The wildfire west of Grand Forks, near Gilby, is spreading rapidly!
Originally reported as a controlled burn gone wrong, the flames are now over a mile and a half long, scorching cropland and wildlife areas. The fire is moving east and fire crews are struggling to bring it under control.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE ESCALATES!
At 3:33 p.m., Thompson fire crews called for more manpower, more water, and ATV firefighters to battle the growing inferno. Additional units from Laramore, Grand Forks Air Force Base, Gilby, Manville, and Emerado have been dispatched to the scene.
FARMSTEADS AT RISK!
While no confirmed reports indicate that the fire has hit any structures yet, it was last seen approaching a farmstead near Gilby.
