UPDATE: MN State Senator Loses Assignments, Review Of Burglary Charge

ST. PAUL, MN (trfnews.i234.me) – Minnesota State Senator Nicole Mitchell, a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) party, has been at the center of a legal and political storm following her arrest on felony burglary charges. Mitchell, 49, was apprehended early Monday morning after authorities responded to reports of a break-in at a residence in Detroit Lakes on April 22nd.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Mitchell, dressed in black clothing and a hat, attempting to flee from the basement. She was promptly arrested and detained. Mitchell allegedly confessed to attempting to retrieve sentimental items belonging to her late father, including pictures, a flannel shirt, and ashes, which her stepmother had refused to give her.

In light of these charges, Mitchell has been relieved of her committee assignments and removed from caucus meetings. Minnesota Senate Majority Leader Aaron Murphy emphasized that Mitchell would not resume her normal duties at the state capital while her case is under review in both the Senate and the courts. Her case has been referred to a Senate ethics subcommittee for a hearing scheduled on May 7th.

Mitchell, a first-term Democrat, has stated that she does not intend to resign despite the charges against her. However, Senate Republican Minority Leader Mark Johnson argues that merely removing Mitchell from committees is insufficient in light of the severity of the allegations.
