Underage Drinking Found on Thief River Falls Boat
Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — Underage drinking and unsafe boating practices led to enforcement action in the Thief River Falls area this week.
A Minnesota conservation officer reported several outdoor-related violations during recent patrol activity.
The cases included alcohol use by people under 21 and a boat without required life jackets.
Other enforcement involved fishing without a license and juveniles riding ATVs without helmets.
Boat Complaint Leads to Alcohol Violations
The boating incident began with a complaint about a watercraft displaying expired registration.
A conservation officer responded and made contact with the boat and its occupants.
Authorities discovered that people under age 21 were consuming alcohol, according to the enforcement report.
The officer also found that the boat had no life jackets aboard.
Minnesota boating rules require approved personal flotation devices to be available for people aboard most watercraft.
Additional requirements apply to children and certain types of boating activity.
Boaters can review current regulations through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources boating safety page.
Other Outdoor Violations Reported
The conservation officer also assisted with a search warrant in the Bagley area.
No additional details about that investigation were included in the weekly enforcement report.
Separate enforcement action was taken against a person accused of fishing without a required license.
Minnesota anglers can review license requirements through the Minnesota DNR fishing license website.
Authorities also encountered juvenile ATV riders who were not wearing helmets.
Minnesota has safety requirements for young ATV riders, including helmet rules in many situations.
ATV operators and parents can review those requirements on the Minnesota DNR ATV safety page.
Officials Stress Outdoor Safety
The incidents highlight several safety issues commonly monitored by conservation officers across northern Minnesota.
Those duties include boating enforcement, fishing regulations, ATV safety and alcohol-related violations.
Boaters should check registrations and safety equipment before heading onto the water.
Life jackets should also be easily available and properly sized for each person aboard.
Anglers should confirm they have a valid license before fishing.
ATV riders should follow helmet and youth safety rules before operating on public trails or roadways.
