Two-Vehicle Crash in Barnes County: Injury Report and Missing Dog Alert

Barnes County, ND (trfnews.i234.me) – On December 26, 2024, at approximately 4:01 p.m., a two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 1, Hwy. 26, and Barnes County Road 4 near Dazey, North Dakota. The collision involved a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and a 1997 Peterbilt commercial vehicle towing a 2019 Wilson hopper trailer.

The Chevrolet, driven by Shelby Olson, 31, of Cooperstown, ND, was traveling northbound on Hwy. 1. At the same time, the Peterbilt, operated by Jack Fehr, 20, of Wimbledon, ND, was traveling eastbound on County Road 4 and entering Hwy. 26. Fehr failed to yield at a stop intersection, resulting in a T-bone collision as Olson’s vehicle struck the Peterbilt in the drive tires on the passenger side.

The Peterbilt continued east onto Hwy. 26 before coming to a stop, while the Chevrolet remained at the intersection. Road conditions were wet, and visibility was reduced due to fog at the time of the incident.

Shelby Olson and her passenger, Charles Olson, 34, both sustained minor injuries and were transported to CHI Mercy Hospital in Valley City by Barnes County Ambulance. Fehr was not injured in the crash. Seatbelt usage varied among the individuals involved.

A dog named Daphne, traveling with the Olsons, ran into a nearby slough area after the crash. Authorities have requested public assistance in locating the dog. Anyone who observes the animal in the vicinity of the crash is encouraged to contact the Barnes County Dispatch Center at (701) 845-8181 or call 911.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP).
