Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Proposes Hotel and Casino Development in Grand Forks County

Grand Forks County, ND (trfnews.i234.me)—The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians has submitted a formal letter of intent to the City of Grand Forks, proposing the development of a high-end resort and casino along I-29, near the Grand Forks Campground. The Tribe owns a 146-acre parcel of land southwest of the city limits and intends to use it to bring jobs, revenue, and revitalization to the area.

The proposal includes ambitious plans for a 200+ room hotel, a class III casino, a conference and banquet facility, an entertainment center, and a gas station and convenience store. The Tribe describes the development as a multi-use entertainment and commercial center aimed at diversifying its economy and funding critical Tribal programs such as schools, hospitals, infrastructure, and cultural initiatives.

The letter highlights the economic challenges faced by the Turtle Mountain Band, North Dakota’s largest Tribe with approximately 31,000 enrolled members, many of whom live in remote areas. The proposed project seeks to bring significant benefits not only to the Tribe but also to the broader Grand Forks community.

The Committee of the Whole will discuss the proposal at 5:30 PM on Monday, January 27th, at City Hall. This meeting will be an essential step in determining the future of the proposed development.
