Spirit Lake Nation (trfnews.i234.me) — Suspect Captured After Triple Murder on Spirit Lake Reservation

A tragic triple homicide rocked Spirit Lake Nation on Tuesday morning, March 4, when three members of a family—a grandmother, her daughter, and her young grandchild—were found murdered south of St. Michael.

Authorities were alerted to the crime at 9:30 a.m., prompting a rapid response. A large-scale manhunt ensued, leading law enforcement to the Black Tiger Bay area, where the suspect was apprehended at 1:20 p.m..

Victims Identified

A relative confirmed to I Newz that the victims are:

  • Christy Gawking (grandmother)
  • Tiana Walkingeagle (daughter)
  • Tiana’s young daughter (name withheld)

The suspect is currently in custody, but formal charges have yet to be filed. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity pending further investigation.

“We should have more details and potential charges by Wednesday,” officials stated.

As the community mourns this unimaginable tragedy, the Spirit Lake Tribal Council has encouraged residents to seek support through grief counseling services.
