Three Charged in Grand Forks Drug Trafficking Case

Grand Forks (trfnews.i234.me) — Three men face felony drug trafficking charges after searches conducted over the weekend.

The defendants are Omar Williams, 37, Darnell Patterson, 31, and Angelo Matthews, 38.

All three are being held at the Grand Forks County Correction Center.

Three Men Face Felony Charges

Williams faces four felony charges, according to court documents.

They include conspiracy to possess cocaine with intent to deliver.

He also faces possession with intent to deliver cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana.

The cocaine conspiracy and possession charges are Class A felonies.

The fentanyl charge is a Class B felony.

The marijuana charge is a Class C felony.

Patterson and Matthews each face three felony charges.

Both are charged with conspiracy and possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

They also face Class C felony evidence tampering charges.

North Dakota Class A felonies can carry prison sentences of up to 20 years.

Investigators executed search warrants on a vehicle and a Grand Forks residence Saturday.

The operation involved several local and federal law enforcement agencies.

Court records say investigators watched a black Chevrolet Tahoe traveling on Interstate 29.

Authorities initiated a traffic stop near mile marker 122.

The Tahoe continued along the shoulder before stopping near mile marker 123.

Williams was detained and informed about the vehicle search warrant.

Investigators allegedly found 53 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle.

They also reported finding 1.45 grams of fentanyl and $913.

At the same time, authorities searched a residence in the 600 block of North Fifth Street.

Patterson and Matthews were found inside, according to court documents.

Investigators reported finding about 241.3 grams of suspected cocaine.

Packages were allegedly discovered inside a toilet and refrigerator.

Authorities also reported finding $13,620, digital scales, and designer plastic bags.

The substance tested presumptively positive for cocaine, court records state.

Patterson and Matthews later denied knowing about the drugs, according to court documents.

The three defendants remain in custody while their cases move through court.

Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for 9 a.m. November 2.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.

Each defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
