Motorcycle Struck a Deer

Terry Vanthof, of Red Lake Falls, was riding a 1999 Honda GL1500 motorcycle.

Vanthof’s motorcycle struck a deer near the rural intersection. The report did not describe what happened before the impact.

The motorcycle’s direction of travel was not included. Road and weather conditions were also not listed.

An ambulance took Vanthof to Sanford Medical Center after the collision.

The report did not provide details about his injuries or condition. No other vehicles were listed in the report.

No additional injuries were reported in the available information. Officials also did not report any citations.

Deer can enter roads with little warning. The danger often increases near wooded areas and farm fields.

Motorcycle riders have less protection during animal crashes. Even a smaller animal can cause a rider to lose control.

Drivers should reduce speed when deer appear near a road. They should also watch for other deer nearby.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation offers road and motorcycle safety information.

Hospital and patient care information is available through Sanford Health.

The sheriff’s office report did not suggest criminal activity. It also did not identify any other people involved.

More information could be released if officials receive new details. No further updates were included in the original report.
