Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) – TRF News has learned that a Lino Lakes man has been sentenced for felony escape from custody. Richard Wayne Reierson, 37, received his sentence in Pennington County District Court.
Reierson was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison, with the sentence stayed for four years. Instead, he will serve four years of supervised probation. He must also complete a comprehensive assessment within 60 days, follow all recommended treatment and aftercare, and comply with strict probation conditions.
As part of the sentence, Reierson is barred from possessing firearms, ammunition, or explosives while on probation. He must also submit a DNA sample and pay $210 in court fees and fines.
The charge stemmed from a May 8 report that Reierson failed to return to jail after being granted a court-ordered furlough. Court records show the furlough was granted on April 7 so Reierson could attend a family member’s funeral. However, investigators later learned the funeral had been rescheduled to May 3, and Reierson did not attend. He was required to return to jail a day after release, but failed to do so. His probation agent attempted multiple contacts before filing the report.
The case underscores the consequences of failing to follow furlough conditions and probation requirements. For more on Minnesota criminal statutes, visit the Minnesota Escape From Custody Law page.
