Thief River Falls Man Gets 3 Years on Drug Charge
Thief River Falls (trfnews.i234.me) — Shane Scott Stone, 54, was sentenced to 36 months in prison on a felony drug charge.
Stone was sentenced for third-degree controlled substance crime involving possession.
He was also sentenced for misdemeanor fourth-degree driving while impaired.
A gross misdemeanor contraband charge was dismissed.
For the felony offense, Stone received a 36-month prison sentence.
He was also ordered to provide a DNA sample.
Stone may not use or possess firearms, ammunition or explosives.
He was ordered to pay $210 in fees and fines.
DWI Sentence Considered Complete
Stone also received a 90-day jail sentence for the DWI offense.
Credit for time already served made that jail sentence complete.
He was ordered to pay another $50 fine for the DWI conviction.
The charges followed a May 3, 2025, traffic stop on 130th Street Northeast.
According to the complaint, the officer noticed signs of possible controlled substance impairment.
The officer also noticed a burn mark on Stone’s right index finger.
Stone then failed field sobriety tests, according to court records.
Search Finds Drug Paraphernalia
Law enforcement found an improperly packaged marijuana container during the investigation.
A backpack behind the driver’s seat contained hypodermic needles, a digital scale and a glass pipe.
The scale and pipe tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the complaint.
Investigators later obtained a search warrant for a blood sample.
The sample was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for analysis.
Meth Found During Booking Process
Stone was asked whether he had contraband before entering the pre-booking area.
Investigators later determined he had thrown a bag before sitting down.
The bag contained methamphetamine, according to the complaint.
With packaging included, the bag weighed 19.4 grams.
The original contraband charge connected to that allegation was later dismissed.
Stone was sentenced on the felony possession and misdemeanor DWI counts.
