A Thief River Falls man, Cody Mitchell Meekma, 36, has been charged with multiple offenses after a violent confrontation at his home on Saturday night. Meekma is facing a felony charge of domestic assault by strangulation, along with gross misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree assault of a peace officer and interference with a 911 call, as well as a misdemeanor assault charge.
The incident began when Meekma allegedly assaulted his father at their residence on Markley Avenue South, leaving him with visible injuries. According to the complaint, Meekma choked his father, impeded his airway, and took his phone to prevent him from calling for help. The victim later reported the assault at the Law Enforcement Center.
When deputies arrived at the Meekma residence, Cody Meekma allegedly resisted arrest, attempted to punch a deputy, and even tried to place the officer in a headlock. The deputy managed to subdue Meekma, who was then arrested and taken into custody.
